Adios AMIGGOS

For the past two and a half months, we have been measuring greenhouse gases around Fairbanks in the AMIGGO campaign.  This is Niki Jacob’s project, and we had great collaboration with Qiansi Tu and Harrison Parker in Fairbanks and Dubey, Frank, and Thomas from afar.  It was great also to work with Greg Osterman of JPL, the OCO-2 validation team leader on making coincident observations of that satellite’s measurements with our ground-based observations.  It has been great to get out and about in the area and watch the summer transition into fall.  I leave you with a photo of Denali on the way down to the Nenana site today.img_20161014_090307

A good day, AMIGGOs

After one of the rainiest summers, we’ve gotten some clear skies, and on Monday, August 29, we were on the ground at Poker Flat for an OCO-2 satellite overpass.  We were measuring greenhouse gases from the bottom up, and OCO-2 measures from space.  This photo is from when OCO-2 was looking down on us.PANO_20160829_142436

AMIGGO Campaign

Hola AMIGGOs-

We are running the Arctic Mobile Infrared Greenhouse Gas Observations (AMIGGO) campaign around Fairbanks, Alaska.  The campaign is studying Arctic greenhouse gas (CO2 and methane) exchange by using Bruker EM27/Sun Fourier Transform Spectrometers.  Our partners, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) have brought two EM27 spectrometers to the Fairbanks area, and we are deploying them in upwind/downwind configurations to study fluxes of these gases.  The campaign is in August and September, 2016.  You can follow the campaign at the website below:

Congrats to KC!

KC successfully defended his M.S. thesis today.  He had a nice presentation that was well attended.  The audience had a lot of good questions, which KC handled well.  Congrats to KC on the oral defense!

OBuoy-8 DOAS rides again

Obuoy-8’s DOAS was recovered from the Arctic Ocean by an icebreaker and we got it back in lab and refurbished it.  It will be deployed this summer and will again measure reactive halogens above the frozen Arctic Ocean.  Ride on, OB8.OB-8DOAS-2015-04-13
